I feel this ven diagram overlaps with “But Goya is an important part of Luhteeno culture.”
And actual Latin Americans in Latin America are like: https://twitter.com/norbertobriceno/status/1330524320892915718
The more I observe, the more I am seeing that generational U.S. born Luhteenos is its own ethnicity and actually has nothing to do with the actual Latin American region and what folks do in the actual Latin America. It is extremely bizarre to watch the performance. Very awkward.
Every time y’all say “this thing is part of ‘Latinx culture” (always singular at that 🙄) I’m like literally....how?
Y’all: Latin Americans are hyper-sexual and simmering hot, liberated, walking sex, burning passion, naked, free fun! Naked.

Actual real life in Latin America: *gets turned away from entering a bank with a sleeveless shirt*

Lmaoooo what.
Yall: Because we (U.S.) Luhteenos just LOVE spicy food!

Actual Latin America: *my Cuban neighbors refused to try a Dorito bc it was orange and they suspected it was spice*
Y’all: we don’t ever have to think about race in Latin America

Actual Latin America: *Literally dozens of terms for ancestry, race, skin color, tone, features and hair texture/Black folks cannot go one entire day without someone referring to them/calling them “negra/morena.”*
Y’all: “Latin” music is so amazing, Latin Americans have so much rhythm!!!

Actual Latin America: Popular genres of music y’all come to associate & love with Latin America were all outlawed& til this day denigrated & criminalized when the actual Black & indigenous creators do it.
Y’all: It’s class NEVER race in Latin America & we all live together in peace bc we are family

Actual Latin America: a white 7-year-old tells the Black woman bus attendant that works for her expensive private school “my mom said all Black ppl are poor & live in wooden houses.”
Y’all: Wow white Latin Americans are “spicy whites,” they surely can dance.

Actual Latin America: me accidentally entering into a club in Bogota and seeing hair and arms flailing sporadically.
Y’all: Wow white Latin Americans are “spicy whites,” they surely can dance.

Actual Latin America: Most of the whites with accolades in music learned it from paid schooling or by going to Black, Afrodescendants, indigenous & indigenous descended folks to learn/steal it
Yall: “I am a white-passing Latina”

Actual Latin America:
Y’all: LatinaAm. is a melting pot, we embrace all our races

Actual Latin America: Me getting followed every time I enter a pharmacy, husband almost getting arrested multiple times for standing in front a hotel, schoolkids not allowed to go to school w/braids, “Indian” is a slur
Y’all: white ppl aren’t *really* white in Latin America

Actual Latin America: Wealthiest, most powerful families that control the region: descendants of Iberian colonizers from Europe &/or Euro fam migrated to Latin Am. during the state-sponsored campaigns to whiten the region
Y'all: Carmen Miranda such a naturally talented Latin American icon.

Actuality: Miranda is from Portugal, fam moved to Brazil during the gov's intentional campaigns to whiten the region. Stole her look from Black women from Bahia, studied at Brazil's National Institute of Music
Y'all: These Latin Americans aren't familiar with U.S. Anglo ways of life

Actuality: Majority of white ppl that control Latin America went to high school, college in U.S., speak English, been doing biz & coups w North American whites for centuries & have summer homes in Florida
Y'all: Latin Americans love music, being loud and rowdy & free-spirited!

Actual Latin America: Me & my husband were evicted from our apartment building of mostly white Cubans bc I had a birthday party.
Y'all: Latin Americans love music, being loud and rowdy & free-spirited!

Actual Latin America: "Mamarrachos were forbidden bc of "...moral and physical damage that they produce... bc of drunken coach-drivers and the mixing of classes"
Y'all: Latin American nations love their Black cultural manifestations!

Actual Latin America: "We recommend banning the danza and danzón because they are vestiges of Africa and should be replaced by essentially European dances such as the quadrille and rigadoon.”
Black Latin Americans soft-shoeing: Latin America embraces us Black folks!

Next nanosecond: White puerto ricans always assume I'm Dominican and/or only speak to me in english assuming I am from mainland U.S.
Y'all: R*salia is such a naturally talented Latina showing us her culture of flamenco

Actuality: She is from Barcelona, Spain & heard a flamenco song at age 13 in a park and her parents paid for her to get musical training at school & with private tutors.
