There is mass confusion among non-lawyers. The ABA does not license attorneys. Each state does & then some are sworn in to federal courts. All take an oath to the const. It’s up to each individual state to discipline its attorneys & can mirror the discipline 1/
of another state if an atty is licensed in more than 1 jurisdiction or allow that attorney to continue to practice while disciplined elsewhere. The ABA issues model rules of ethics which many states adopt & then add to it. It’s a VERY high bar to disbar a lawyer sadly 2/
I have seen particular states where the crimes are bad but there’s no discipline purely for economic reasons bc major clients reside in the state & the atty who should be disbarred is in house there for 1 ex. We have seen egregious actions by the AG and lawyers for trump 3/
Which more than surpass disciplinary measures of mere public or private censure, if not suspension. This is unprecedented, specifically in regard to the AG. Which is why not 1 of his 3 jurisdictions is suspending his license bc it’s never been done b4. If you know me for 1 4/
Millisecond y’all know I am vehemently opposed to not doing a thing because “it’s never been done before” & certainly not during such destructive times & unparalleled attacks on our republic. Also, to file a grievance against a lawyer u must have first hand repercussions 5/
consequences to their actions. Everyone on twitter talks about filing complaints left right and center but it’s just not that simple. As an elevated profession we are allowed add’l latitude but I can assure you, I believe these lawyers are wrong and deserve to be punished. END
