Thread of the most toxic/annoying types of figure skating fans because y’all need to be called out.
Virtue/Moir fans who think hating Davis/White is a personality trait.
Zhenya antis who became Alina fans because they wanted to see Zhenya lose. Many of them now spend all their time nitpicking everything about Alina because they were never really true Alina fans.
The fans who get way too hung up on terms like “undefeated” and “GOAT” and are still salty about that one competition 5 years ago where their fave was robbed. They talk about skaters’ careers like they’re fairy tales and vilify every skater who beats their fave.
Fanyus who spend more time bullying Nathan than they spend watching Yuzuru’s beautiful skating.
Fans who never bother to watch pairs but think they’re experts on pair skating because they’ve seen one pairs performance.
Delusional Virtue/Moir shippers who started stanning Stepanova/Bukin not because S/B are amazing skaters but because they needed a new couple to obsessively ship.
People who obsessively stan one Russian pair and constantly criticize every other Russian pair.
People who call themselves “woke gays” but bully Papadakis/Cizeron (who are literally the patron saints of woke gays in figure skating right now)
People who are mean towards Madi Hubbell and Victoria Sinitsina just because they don’t like Zach and Nikita.
Virtue/Moir fans who are just in it for the shipping and don’t care about Tessa and Scott’s happiness or even their skating! (The worst ones are the ppl who bully Tessa and Scott’s significant others just bc they’re convinced that Tessa and Scott are destined to get married).
Fans - especially male fans - who love when female skaters look p*ssed off. It reinforces the misogynistic idea that women should always be smiling and don’t have the right to get angry about a competition.
Fans who call 25-year-old skaters their “uwu soft babies” who can do no wrong.
People who generalize all Japanese female skaters as “beautiful angels” and Russian female skaters as “technical robots”. Whether intentional or not, I think it’s xenophobic to make general statements about a group of people from a particular country, even if it’s SOMETIMES true.
Marin Honda stans who still haven’t forgiven Alina for the results of 2017 Junior Worlds. (I personally agree that Marin was robbed, but that’s not Alina’s fault, and hating Alina won’t bring justice for Marin!)
Eunsoo Lim ubers who proclaim that it’s not ok to bully a minor but say awful things about other underage skaters on Twitter.
Skating fans who call themselves feminists but spend most of their time criticizing female skaters.
Fans who use the term “skating while Russian” to refer to Russian skaters getting overscored but refuse to acknowledge that there is also “skating while American” or “skating while Canadian”.
People who hardcore stan novice/junior skaters and talk about how they’re going to win the Olympics in 5 years (and then complain about how their babies had such a tragic career when it doesn’t happen)
Pairs and ice dance fans who celebrate when other teams split up because it means less competition for their faves.
Yuzuru fans who hate Javier and Javier fans who hate Yuzuru because they think their fave would’ve been more successful if the other skater didn’t exist.
People who only call out cultural appropriation when they don’t like the skater who’s doing it and turn a blind eye when their fave does the same thing.
People who stanned Medvedeva, Kostornaia, and Trusova when they were under Eteri, then started hating them the minute they left Eteri because “now they’re ungrateful girls with bad attitudes”.
People who ship skaters with their coaches. Just no.
People who have whole public Twitter accounts dedicated to sexualizing their faves. A little casual thirst tweeting is fine, but some users take it way too far and it’s creepy.
People who say that they dislike Eteri but support her skaters, then take every opportunity to criticize the girls' skating, complain that they're overscored, and celebrate when they lose.
Gay skating fans who hate on ice dance couples who are together off the ice because they’re “boring hets”. While I don’t like heteronormativity in ice dance, it’s not cool to bash couples just because they are in a relationship with each other.
Team Russia antis who say that all Russian skaters are overscored and lack artistry. Although some Russian skaters do receive fed inflation, many Russian skaters are actually pleasant to watch and/or deserve the PCS they get.
Team USA antis who lump in good people like Nathan and Jason with the problematic members of Team USA.
People who justify bullying skaters just because they seem “cocky”. You don’t have to love their attitude, but some of you expect skaters to be unreasonably self-deprecating.
Salty Il*nykh stans who hate Victoria Sinitsina. Elena and Nikita skated very well together, but Vika is a talented skater and she doesn’t deserve to be constantly compared to Elena. It’s not her fault that Nikita treated Elena poorly.
People who say they support abuse survivors in the sport but said Stolbova “should’ve known better” than to get involved with N*kolai M*rozov, who has a long history of manipulating his female students into sexual relationships.
