If you think a Board that decided to go ahead with implementing a season ticket price increase after the onset of a pandemic is out of touch with the mood of the support & incapable of acknowledging mistakes, you’d be entirely right. On we limp until the next embarrassment.
Also, the chances of a manager who lucked into a job he’d previously spent a number of years disqualifying himself from ever getting again, now acknowledging his own failings & resigning, are zero. Chances are we are stuck in this cycle of diminishing returns indefinitely.
As long as you keep buying stuff, there’s no crisis for the Board. Results are erratic, performances are swinging wildly between average to dreadful, confidence is brittle, recruitment is questionable, tactics are downright bizarre. But what a Christmas tat advert we have, eh?
Good luck if you’re one of the people who can rely on blind faith alone. As long as there’s enough of you, this keeps on rolling. For the rest of us it’s like watching a car crash in slow motion & no amount of Labi Siffre or reminders of beating Barcelona can change that.
I’ve never really obsessed on the 10, in reality if we’d done anything but win the last 9 with the financial advantage we’ve had throughout something would have been far wrong. But pissing it away as easy as we are currently…that’s once in a lifetime ineptitude. Unforgivable.
One of my favourite things about our support is our reluctance to be spoon-fed shite that defies what we see with our own eyes. We don’t have the extreme widespread gullibility of the other lot. We are capable of individual thought. We can see what’s happening. It’s not pretty.
Unfortunately we don’t get paid exorbitant salaries and bonus packages to decide how and when to fix critical problems in the club’s infrastructure. But if it’s blatantly obvious to us mere customers that it needs sorted, you really have to wonder those so empowered don’t see it.
I’ve been going to CP since 1979. With the exception of a brief period in the ‘90s when I couldn’t afford it, I’ve been pretty much a regular. Struggling to think of a time where I’ve seriously contemplated giving up before now. The bond is hanging by a thread.
