i think the problem i have most with poetry school is this idea that there is only one way of seeing a thing as correct. the canon is not a bible, not a source of truth, but moreso a guide. it’s a motion of violence to exclude one purview because the canon says otherwise https://twitter.com/matthewzapruder/status/1330289107822669825
i found ocean’s description fascinating, and took it as an attempt to show how he himself reaches for metaphor as a tool, how he has come to sharpen its blade. i took a screenshot of all of it because it aligned with how i see metaphor too.
you def could have chosen to ~add~ or ~compliment~ the spirit of the lesson Ocean gave. addition and communion is so much more interesting than what i think you’re trying to pull off here by trying to tear apart one view of metaphor in favor of one (supposedly) more vetted.
i enjoy the way ocean puts together a metaphor, and it was nice to peak behind his eyes. for the parts i didnt agree with, i’ll examine them & see if there is anything in them to help expand my view, otherwise i will let them fall through my fingers while i hold the bits i loved
