I want you & @sglassmeyer to really think about why the public processing of your pain is somehow more important than the people he hurt/is actively hurting. I know BIPOC who were in this so-called magical group you were all in who bounced early because they felt unsafe. https://twitter.com/librarianmer/status/1329942782744555520
Again, it’s one thing to grieve someone getting q-pilled. It’s another to say that we BIPOC who are “uncomfortable” with this public grief for a literal Nazi is somehow pouring salt in the wound. You posit yourselves as allies in your stories. And yet you’re still minimizing!
From all accounts he was a “line-stepper.” That is not being subtle. And to use the fact that he sang in a gay bar once like there aren’t gay Nazis (Milo anyone???). And to use these BIPOC friends as proof of his “safety” is not only wrong but is the opposite of being an ally.
I REFUSE to feel bad about rolling my eyes at your shock. In all of these blog posts it’s gone so far beyond “shock” as to be justifications. It’s the refusing to understand that you’re complicit in white supremacy for me.
All of your posts and your double downs and your “reasons” just continue to prove my point that I shouldn’t trust you as an ally (despite casting yourself as the hero of the “Ned” story)” That we BIPOC are right to show our walls to you.
Ultimately, all of this public grief and grace given to this man over the pain and very literal HARM he dished out to multiple communities demonstrates that librarianship is more interested in looking anti-racist than actually BEING anti-racist.
