I'm not gonna try and police religious trauma, but just as a clarifying point on the Akedah in its ANE context: the story is actually showing that the God of Israel is AGAINST child sacrifice in a world where other ANE deities demanded it. The narrative turn in the story... https://twitter.com/SarahTheHaider/status/1328919490046914561
...where YHWH both provides a ram & sends an angel to stop Abraham so that he doesn't sacrifice Isaac would have stood out to ancient Israelites. We have issues with the fact that YHWH even asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. That would not have been an issue for ancient listeners
They took it as a given that certain gods of the ancient world demanded child sacrifice. Thus, YHWH's request seems typical at first. It is the stark narrative turn where YHWH stays Abraham's hand and also provides a ram in place of Isaac.
For ancient audiences this is the shocker: that Israel's God not only repudiates child sacrifice but that he also provides the sacrifice of the ram so that Abraham doesn't have to. In the harsh cosmic landscape of the ancient world, the climax of Akedah is an act of divine mercy.
Of course one can still have great qualms about YHWH asking Abraham in the first place. I only ask that people try and read the text on its terms and see that in its ancient literary context, YHWH stands out in contrast to gods like Moloch bc he stops Abraham from killing Isaac.
