Sidhattha Gotama did not become a buddha. Sidhattha Gotama went away. And when he went away, there was nothing left but bodhi.

Practice like this.

If you fancy that you'll be the next buddha, Mara will immediately show up masquerading as Maitreya & seduce you into being reborn as a nasty little selfish critter who wants to become a buddha. Don't fall for his tricks. Give yourself away for the benefit of all sentient beings.

How do I know? Because I fell for it, of course. I always seem to fall for Mara's tricks... at least once. But I learn. Together we learn.
