Here's a fun story on the recruitment of @ZTF58 and working for @UW_Football. Best job I'll ever have!
Back in 2016, I was watching some Hawaii HS football looking at an offensive lineman for one of our coaches (Hawaii has some ballers by the way!). I kept noticing #4 on the other team consistently making plays on tape. He was a man amongst boys!
Based on his size and athleticism, I assumed he was another Hawaii prospect with plenty of offers already but I wanted to see who it was. After some searching, I found it was @ZTF58. I was shocked to see he had no offers, no recruiting profile, nothing.
That doesn’t happen very often for a 6’4” 250-pound guy who can move like that. I was ecstatic. This guy could play and had HUGE upside but somehow had no recruiting coverage!
It’s probably since he was playing at a Hawaii school that doesn’t generally produce D1 guys, but I knew this guy needed an offer from us (assuming all the non-football stuff checked out).
We showed his film to @CoachK_UW and @MalloeMalloe and within a few plays it was clear that we needed to be his first scholarship offer. This guy had the potential to grow into a big time player for @UW_Football.
Shortly after, we gave @ZTF58 his first scholarship offer. Naturally, that’s when all the recruiting sites caught wind of him and he quickly received offers from Oregon, Cal, WSU, Vanderbilt, and others.
We were all thrilled when he chose UW, and in his third season with the team he now leads CFB in sacks/game. #GoDawgs
Stories like this happen every day in CFB, and there’s a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes in recruiting that you’d never know just by turning on the TV on Saturday’s.
There are tons of incredibly driven, passionate recruiting folks who work long hours for the success of their programs, and there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing your guys get their chance! #GoDawgs
One final thing I’ll add: I’ll never forget touring around @ZTF58 and his family the first time they ever came up to Seattle. Some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, and he deserves every bit of this success! True definition of an OKG.
