basic twitch etiquette [a thread for the toxic assholes who just don't seem to be getting it]
- don't put streamers on the spot

by this I mean don't donate stuff like "can you say acab" for example. a lot of content creators don't know how to respond when being put on the spot/aren't educated about certain issues and don't want to get it wrong in front of 1000's of ppl
- If a streamer tells you to stop doing something, just stop

i really don't understand why it's so funny to try and ignore the streamers wishes. if a streamer isn't comfortable with something you should respect that - just like how you would any other person
- understand that a lot of smaller streamers will see what you say in chat

this is specifically for people who come from big streamers like tommy/tubbo etc. like you might be used to your message flying by without anyone seeing it but when you go over to someone who's
smaller they will see if you say some toxic bs. just put a sock in it alright?
- streamers aren't therapists, don't force them to take up that emotional labor

seriously personal issues, esspecially about mental health should probably not be dono'd to a streamer unless they have explicitly stated that they are okay with it.

again, it puts the streamer on
the spot unfairly. most people don't know how to deal with that, you know?

also you don't know who could see that Dono and who it might trigger. not even just the people in chat- you don't know what the streamer has gone through and what might upset them.

please don't do this
- respect. female. streamers.

treat them the same way you would any other streamer.

don't sexualise them, don't say dumb shit like "you're doing this for male validation", just treat them how you would anyone else.

this point should be fairly obvious but for some reason it's
not understood by a lot of people.

like what's not clicking? respect all streamers
- understand that streamers are human and will make mistakes while on stream

when you're live talking for hours on end it can be easy to slip and up and go to far and say something you don't mean to. of course, hold the person accountable but let them explain themselves and dont
try to cancel them over something that may just be them tripping over their own words or something.
- don't donate weird shit to streamers

I'm talking, NSFW, ship stuff, purposefully baity comments - like just don't.

you don't know who could be watching the stream when you donate that kinda stuff.

some CC's are more adult in their content and okay with more NSFW stuff but
you should always check that before you donate.

also I've seen some weird ass donations about shipping sent to minors... don't do that, even just in basic human logic that's fucking gross.
- try to be positive in chat

this goes for all streamers, no matter the size.

even if you're in a a massive stream chat and the messages are zooming past, you will still be seen by someone. why have that comment be negative and nasty when you could just... not
- don't compare streamers to other streamers or say stuff like "oh [BLANK] is live so I'm leaving this stream"

like this should be common decency but stuff like this can be genuinely hurtful to a lot of streamers, esspecially if they're small but even if they're bigger aswell
why would you compare two streamers anyway? that's just a dickhead move and will only upset the streamer /make the streamer uncomfortable because they don't want to be compared in that way.
- stop pressuring streamers into doing something

this can come in all shapes and sizes from trying to get the streamer to change the game their playing because it's not the game you wanna see, to donoing stuff like "why didnt you read my last Dono"

I'd also put donos like
"i spent my birthday money on you" or "i spent my food money on you" in the same category. they come across as very manipulative and can make the streamer uncomfortable.

like it was your choice to dono, don't then guilt trip the streamer about it.
- respect the mods

the mods are fucking amazing and they're always trying their best. respect them.

if they say to do / to stop doing something in chat then LISTEN TO THEM. they are there for a reason and know what they're doing.

be nice to them, they have a lot on their plate
basically this thread was mostly common decency although I've seen this be suprisingly rare in twitch chats...

tl;dr don't be an asshat
