RE: BC COVID messaging:
Premier Horgan's Thursday's presser, he was asked what more needs to be done in terms of regional communication/ strategies. He talks abt "diff. ways to reach out to diff. demographics" and mentions how he reached out to Ryan Reynolds/ Seth Rogen, Buble..
He also touches on how officials have reached out to gurdwaras, temples, synagogues, mosques, churches so faith leaders can "amplify in their communities" also mentions schools and universities.
He also adds "we need to make sure we're clear in our communications - I believe we are and we are reinforcing that message with other voices in the community." One voice I haven't heard amplified so far w/ the prove govt's culturally sensitive messaging is w/ grassroots orgs.
Grassroots orgs .and community organizers are on the ground right now working in communities where numbers are high right now. We see this in Surrey esp. with many South Asian individuals working to get out translated materials and reach out to diff demographics of the community
So maybe we really don't need to hear from Ryan Reynolds, Seth Rogen, and Micheal Buble right now. Maybe govt. need to amplify the work of grassroots orgs/ advocates/ groups mobilizing NOW to get COVID-19 messaging out to their communities.
