Just got done reading some comments on some of my blog posts (I know, I know) and we really need to address the anger of some folks. This isn't just disagreement. It's an apoplectic rage. This in contrast to the often passionate but restrained tone of the folks they're attacking.
What is it they (mostly referring to people who think we're making too big a deal about racism) feel is at stake? Why do they feel so threatened? Why is this boiling over anger their response? Myriad explanations can and have been proposed. I just know it's dangerous.
At some point Twitter fingers become trigger fingers. Verbal violence and can quickly turn into physical violence. Words create the context for action. These toxic, verbal rampages put us all at risk. We need robust mental health care and communities of care to counteract.
