I agree with authors& #39; central point; this is a normative not descriptive question. More subtly I agree one can& #39;t infer from what one thinks about trans re gender to trans re race. But on the actual 1st order matter I think trans race should be held legit. http://bostonreview.net/race-philosophy-religion-gender-sexuality/robin-dembroff-dee-payton-why-we-shouldnt-compare">https://bostonreview.net/race-phil...
I recall finding the basic argument of this paper by @perdricof and Leif persuasive, and it relates to thinking pragmatically about how one would want to define gender terms in different contexts. And I think similar high level considerations go re race. https://www.dropbox.com/s/f3my0ti1jbvwk19/vspc_woman-project.pdf?dl=0">https://www.dropbox.com/s/f3my0ti...
The pluralism that falls out of this makes me averse to agreeing to the pic. And then when I think about this sort of position from @ChikeJeffers it seems to me that at least some of the contexts I would like race terms should allow trans race people in.

So yeah, interesting article from @RDembroff and Dee Payton (who I cannae find on twitter) and I agree with what I think are their central philosophical points for broadly the reasons they say, but I still think more room should be made for trans race. Thanks for writing!
