Gonna rank every modern series of Doctor Who in a thread, cause it shall cause anger, and I feed of anger :)
12) Series 7

When it’s good, it’s alright. When it’s bad, it’s sexist toss that throws character arcs away and sucks all the joy out of the Smith era, creating a vacuum of sadness and incoherence

Best Episode: The Snowmen
Worst Episode: Asylum of the Daleks
11) Series 2

While less offensively bad, it may be the worst ageing run in the shows 57-year history. It’s soulless, excruciating, and often borders on laughable. A few episodes are stellar, though.

BE: The Girl in the Fireplace
WE: New Earth
10) Series 9

In it’s defence, it has very high highs: the Zygon 2-parter and the final three episodes are great. Everything else, however, made me stop watching the show, as I became a devout, angsty hater

BE: The Zygon Invasion/Inversion
WE: TMA/TWF
9) Series 6

Despite retaining the magic of Series 5, this one lacks the consistency to make a truly great run. The series arc is ultimately incoherent, and some really bad episodes spoil the bunch

BE: The Doctor’s Wife
WE: TDTWATW
8) Series 8

I’ll admit, there is a great atmosphere throughout. The relationship between 12 and Clara is interesting, but Danny just gets in the way. Plus, some really dodgy episodes here, and Capaldi was far too Tucker at times.

BE: MOTOE
WE: ITFOTN
7) Series 4

Series 4 has some of the best episodes in the entire show, with Donna being a standout. The specials are consistently haunting, and we’re my introduction to the show. Turn Left-Journey’s End is crap though, and let’s down the entire run.
Best Episode: Midnight

Plenty of contenders for this one, but as far as social commentary goes, this is a masterpiece. Wonderfully paced, stunningly directed, with a cast that brings it all home. One of this shows finest accomplishments
Worst Episode: The Doctor’s Daughter

An utter disaster, failing at every hurdle. Martha serves no purpose, the Hath are more unsettling than sympathising, and the 10th Doctor is never more out of character. A total disaster
6) Series 1

As far as the first series of a relaunched show can go, this is pretty superb. It takes a few episodes to get going, sure, but there is some exceptional drama that has aged wonderfully well. And, most importantly, Eccleston and Piper are a dynamite pairing
Best Episode: Boom Town

A part of me just wants to say Dalek, because it really is without fault. But so is Boom Town, which also has Margaret. This is a wonderful character piece, with superb dialogue, rapid pacing and brilliant acting from Noel Clarke
Worst Episode: The Long Game

While there are other bad stories, this one stings the most. Adam displays himself as superfluous, the story attempts to be frightening without any substance behind it, and it’s all purely set-up for the finale. At least Simon Pegg was good.
5) Series 10

At this point, I struggle to find fault in any of these. One of the best TARDIS teams ever, with some world-class stories and a tear-shedding finale. However, it’s bordered by two naff Christmas specials, with a trilogy of...nothingness in the middle
Best Episode: Empress of Mars

So many stories were deserving of this title, but I adore the Ice Warriors, and seeing Alpha Centauri again was everything to me. The story itself is proper Classic Who, and while not the most groundbreaking story, it has a special place in my heart
Worst Episode: The Eaters of Light

What was this? This was the perfect place for an episode about Missy travelling with the Doctor, but no, we got this instead. It was so utterly unremarkable I’d struggle to tell you anything that happened in it
4) Series 12

Gay. But also, really rather brilliant. The best set of villains the show has ever produced, a stunning opener and finale, with some great historicals and game changers thrown in the middle. But yes, the one everyone thinks is shit is very shit.
Best Episode: The Haunting of Villa Diodati

I have my issues with Ashad, but my issues with him come in Ascension. Here, he is a brutal menace, tearing his way through history. Yaz gets a particularly candid moment, Whittaker is at the top of her game, what more do you want?
Worst Episode: Orphan 55

This is a pretty unforgivable disaster. Too many guest characters, a lazy plot twist, and little substance. Benni is a much underrated character, though, and I do have great memories of watching it, with friends tearing into it limb by limb
Before I move on to the top three, I’ll go through my replies and try to fan the flames. Any guesses to the order of the final three?
