I’m listening to somebody talk about Indigenous foods and I’m feeling frosted af. “they didn’t have eggs...garlic..seasonings..butter,” what the actual hell are you talking about we had eggs, wild onions & even wild peppercorns, bay leaf, we had animal fats, what?? “experts”
At some point we’re going to need to level up our rhetoric and creativity. And stop looking down our noses at not being a total purist pre-contact dieter. It’s not realistic or inclusive and it’s not sovereign.
To give you more context it was a conversation about an “authentic” Thanksgiving scene & what food would have been like. On the whole yeah it would look a lot different than it does today, I’m just cross about the shallow uninformed portrayal of Native American foods like that.
