"All gays go to hell" has been a homophobic part of Christian Conservative Doctrine for hundreds of years. The idea came about due to an intentional mistranslation of a verse in Leviticus, which theologists believe originally said "Man should not fornicate with child".

The mistranslation, wherein "child" is replaced with "man" has been used to justify sexual assault, torture, physical beatings, murder, chemical torture, overmedication, hospitalization, and demonization of queer people for centuries. Being Gay was even a crime until recently.

Though Homophobia has decreased in recent decades, society still discriminates against the LGBTQ+ community through social and housing discrimination, lack of healthy representation in media, and lack of comprehensive justice for hate crimes.

Supernatural, as it exists in the media, is one of the most queerbait-fueled franchises in the *history* of mainstream television. How?

Destiel, of course.

Destiel is the fandom term for the romantic prospect of the angel Castiel and the hunter Dean Winchester as queer lovers. Dean would be hypothesized as a bisexual man, and Cas as either a gay man or a pansexual or asexual nonbinary entity, depending on interpretation.

The writers of Supernatural spent 11-12 years actively pulling a "will they/won't they" passive yearning between the two characters, often believed to be either deeply sexual or deeply familial bond based on who was writing at what time. The fans used this to fuel their fanfics.

This unrelenting implication that these two characters might end as lovers is called Queerbaiting- the act of implying characters in your media MAY be queer without concrete canonical queer characterization. It was and is a greedy tactic used by selfish networks to earn profits.

"But if Cas came out as Gay, doesn't that mean it isn't queerbaiting the ship anymore?"

No honey- because of another greedy profiteering tactic.

Bury Your Gays.

"Bury your gays" is a media trope where in any and all non-cishet characters are killed either immediately after coming out, or as a vector to fuel the development of the protaganists. It is regarded as deeply homophobic and discriminatory.

This is what they do to Cas.

You see, many seasons ago, Cas trapped himself in Limbo so he could ascend to the same level of power as Chuck- the vessel of Yaweh in SPN- in order to better protect humanity and the Winchesters. But leaving Limbo required him to make a secret deal with the Empty.

Castiel agreed that he would only die and come to the Empty- as all dead angels do- once he had achieved true happiness.

That true happiness was finally getting to tell Dean the truth.

That Castiel, angel of the Lord, had been so very in love with him for 11 years.

Upon his love confession Cas is dragged through a flaming portal into the Empty, an afterlife implied to be worse than Hell itself. As the fans call it, "Super Hell".

He is dragged.

Into Super Hell.

For confessing that he was gay.
