THEORY A: a thread dedicated to recent rumours about the cw. bear with me because there's a LOT to unpack here.
rumour 1: misha was filming scenes for 15x20 but everything got cut. let's explore this, shall we?

all the evidence points toward misha having been on set and having filmed scenes for 15x20. we didn't get to see these scenes so it hints at the cw cutting that. moving on to the next rumour.
rumour 2: dean was supposed to say "me too" while sobbing over cas in 15x18.
by now we all know that jensen said most of his acting involving the confession scene got cut. we know jensen wasn't exactly happy about that. it leads me to believe that we didn't get to see dean's full reaction because it was too unambiguous. it might have revealed too much.
if we go as far as to analyse the confession scene, small things immediately catch the eye: the way the second part of the scene was edited weirdly and the way dean first had a lot of tears in his eyes while facing the empty, then turning around and having way less of those...
dean's breathing after cas is gone caught my eye immediately. it was somehow off. as if it was layered on top of the scene. it also at some point just doesn't seem to fit with the way dean should be breathing. and it somehow feels too... loud?
in september, jensen supposedly did adr for episode 18 which could point toward the fact that some parts of the scene got overlaid with that.
we also have a pa (?) saying that the silence at the end of the episode wasn't in the early cut. it hints at the fact that something was said. so it leads me to believe that 15x18 was changed in post-production.
this all leads me to think that the "me too" rumour could be true. maybe it wasn't specifically a "me too" but dean must have said something. so i personally think something must have been cut or overlaid.
moving on. consider the entire season 15. the entire plot was to some extent structured around dean and cas's relationship. the breakup, the purgatory prayer apology, domestic deancas and finally cas's confession. logical conclusion would have been deancas. why didn't it happen?
also consider this: the cas confession scene was written by bobo berens on the first (or one of the first) day(s) so it must have been pretty important for the overall season and its structure.
given that the entire season 15 is structured in that way as to reflect on dean and cas, the deancas relationship exploration must have (initially) been greenlighted by the network.
consider dean's heaven scene in 15x20. even though cas is not there, it can still be read as the turning point because it's where dean makes the decision to search for cas. check the thread below where i take apart every line of that scene. https://twitter.com/irvnstark/status/1330140738970120198
it all makes me wonder: why would the writers, including dabb, write such a season 15 if they weren't planning on giving us deancas in the end? it makes no sense. if they hadn't planned it, the season would have taken a different approach altogether.
15x20 was an episode completely disconnected to the overall season as if it wasn't part of it at all. the entire tone is different and the story and dialogue seem only vaguely fleshed out. complete opposite of every other episode of the season.
also: two versions of carry on wayward son played almost back to back. that's really weird. there was no reason to do so. dabb just doesn't write episodes like that. and it makes me believe that there are scenes missing between those songs but got cut.
further consider: the entire season was about what dean CANT say. not in purgatory, not while or after cas was confessing and not anywhere in 15x19. the logical conclusion should have been dean SAYING IT. so why didn't he do that? it all led up to this particular arc.
also: jensen said that the final scene he and jared shot was "on the road in this beautiful mountain area" (so most likely the bridge scene). he emphasises it isnt the last scene of the show. AND YET it was. why?
lastly, some meta writers on tumblr predicted episodes such as 18 and 19 almost perfectly and even they did not see 15x20 coming. so what went wrong?
conclusion: the cw must have initially greenlighted deancas. then came quarantine and they overthought it and backtracked on it. scenes from 18, 19, and especially misha's scenes in 20 must have been cut out as a result.
AND: the cast and the writers have been awfully quiet since the episode aired. nobody has said a thing. it makes me believe something went wrong on thursday. it feels like the calm before a storm...
