Constables Megan Arbuthnot and Christian Lamarche of the @OttawaPolice were the assigned “Liaisons” to the Chiinawendiwen action yesterday. These officers escalated the situation which resulted in 12 arrests and charges.
These officers are highly unqualified for their jobs and have no deescalation training. The first interaction they threatened an injunction, the second interaction was “you’re breaking the law” and then 50 riot police showed up.
These officers also have no training or understanding of how to communicate or interact with BIPOC or anyone else that is peacefully protesting for that matter. The actions of this city have showed us that they just want to silence Black and Indigenous voices.
These actions by the @OttawaPolice @JimWatsonOttawa and the @ottawacity is a ongoing demonstration of how much this city hates Black and Indigenous ppl. Stop killing us and harming us! We are not disposable.
I witnessed how police officers snickered at peaceful protestors that were asking for the release of the 12 arrested. As if the 2 liaison officers hadn’t caused enough damage, someone sent them to the rally today too. 🤦🏻‍♀️ The OPS is simply working to escalate tensions.
@JimWatsonOttawa and @OPSChiefSloly signed off on the arrests that happened last night, sending the message about how they really feel about peaceful protests. Ottawa is an extremely racist city veiled behind half assed smiles. I’m done.
@J4Abdirahman @DiasporaOttawa @cmckenney @JoelHardenONDP what happened last night was so disgusting
This is footage of the second time they spoke to organizers.
