Hamid Ansari is a member of the Yusufpur-Mohammadabad branch of the Ansari family and a grand-nephew of former AICC President, Dr. MA Ansari as well as of Brigadier Mohammad Usman, (Mahavir Chakra), popularly known as “The Lion of Nowshera”.

1. Those attacking Ansari for not attending Yoga Day are clueless about protocols attached to Constitutional positions.

2. On the controversy of not saluting the flag, again - the critics are hopelessly ignorant of protocols. As he was not the principal dignitary present he was not supposed to salute!

4. On the issue of Shariah Courts the former Vice President’s opinion is clear:

In Hamid Ansari - who alongside Dr. Radhakrishnan was India’s longest serving Vice President - India has had the benefit of an outspoken and recognised polymath, who has always spoken in the national interest and is one of the strongest voices for minority rights in India today.
