Clune only travelled to Dublin on Friday — travelling by car with Edward McLysaght, who he worked for as manager of his nursery in Raheen Estate, near Tuamgraney. They were in Dublin for an audit of the nursery’s books. 2/12

Clune was a nephew of Archbishop of Perth, Patrick Joseph Clune, who had been a chaplain to Catholic members of the Australian Imperial Force in WW1 and later tried to negotiate with British government & Sinn Fein for a truce in War of Independence. 3/12

On Saturday evening Gaelic League @CnaG activist Clune went to Vaughan’s Hotel on Parnell Square to meet fellow language enthusiast John O’Connell. Vaughan’s was owned by Clarewoman Susan Vaughan, from Ennistymon. 4/12

While he was there he met Piaras Béaslaí, Kerry TD, fellow Irish language enthusiast & editor of An tÓglach, while according to Bureau of Military History files he also met Michael Collins. 5/12

Collins was in Vaughan’s Hotel, which was a known Sinn Féin house, along with Dick McKee & Peadar Clancy, who were the brains behind the attacks on British agents around Dublin city organised for the following morning. 6/12

When the Auxiliaries/Tans arrived at Vaughan’s Hotel, Clune, was arrested because he wasn’t a registered guest & couldn't account for himself. From New York Times report. 7/12

Collins had slipped away, as did Clancy and McKee, who were tracked by informer John ‘Shankers’ Ryan who later tipped off the authorities that they were in 36 Lower Gloucester St where they were arrested. 8/12

Edward McLysaght said Clune was not member of Volunteers/IRA, but Liam Tobin, of the ‘Squad’ involved in IRA attacks on Bloody Sunday morning said Clune ‘was with Michael Collins by appointment that night’. Involved in intelligence work. 10/12

Clancy and McKee were buried in Glasnevin, while Clune’s body was returned to Clare for burial in Quin. At his funeral the authorities moved in and prohibited the placing of a Tricolour on his coffin. 11/12

100 years on from the murder of Conor Clune, respects were paid at his grave in Quin today by relatives. Peadar Clancy’s grandniece, Pauline O’Connell, later married Conor Clune’s nephew Michael Clune. They laid a wreath at Clune’s grave. 12/12
