Unfortunately, "Pandemic Fatigue" is a real thing. And we are going to pay a heavy price for it.
In March-April 2020, as the world was locking down, we all felt more vulnerable than we have ever felt before. At the back of our minds, we worried that we would soon die, or our parents would, or our kids would.
We locked down, went overboard with sanitizer, washed everything, and gave Covid-19 a strong fight. Every new virus statistic was widely circulated and we were waiting for the slaughter.
As the months passed, we did hear of a few people die of Covid-19, but we heard of more people die of other causes. That coupled with the fact that we were suffering an unbelievable mental, physical, and economic toll with the lockdown caused us to get weary of the virus.
Now we are at the other end of the spectrum. Many do wear masks out of habit but are not too careful about what we touch and where we go. Economic, social, and mental wellbeing requires the lockdowns to go away.
In most parts of the world, numbers are clearly showing that the second wave is upon us. And like in the case of the Spanish Flu from a hundred years ago, the second wave is likely to cause much more havoc than the first wave.
Sure, the upcoming vaccine and other measures are different this time around. But we are not at a point where we can let our guard down. In fact, this is the most dangerous time to let our guard down.
But that& #39;s where the Pandemic Fatigue is causing us to abandon caution.
Friends, please hold on for a little longer. Be extra careful for a little longer. Avoid unnecessary exposure for a little longer. Please take care for a little longer.
I don& #39;t want to sound melodramatic, but your life, literally, depends on this. Good luck.
