The pandemic brings a strange mix of conviviality (outdoor street dining in November) and deep mourning and loss. Last night I walked through the city and saw so many ppl gathering for curbside drinks, + it seemed alternately resourceful (the will to connect) + sad.
Some of the scenes made me feel an acute loneliness, missing friends more deeply, worrying abt the economy. The empty tables, the idle workers.
And some of the scenes made me deeply grateful, once again, to the planners who preserved green spaces, which have been embraced anew in our city.
I also appreciated the quiet, old, tiny streets, and I weaved through them marveling that generations have done the same.

Also: ginkgos do stink throughout Philly in the fall, but they are having a glowing moment.
Our Safer at Home period started yesterday + will continue through at least January. No indoor gatherings--that one is big.

Here's hoping Philly rallies together. Our neighbors have done an amazing job becoming mask wearers!

I think we can do this. I hope we do it in time.
