france has just passed a law. u can go to prison and be fined 45000 euros if you share identifiable videos or images of police officers that intend to "undermine their physical or mental integrity" : this is VERY BAD
basically, it's now against the law in france to share videos or images of police officers that reveal their identity, if those images or videos make the police officers look bad. oh my god.
the government has described the law as "protecting those who protect us" - journalists, defenders of free speech and those who document police violence are denoucing this law as "a disproportionate attack on freedom of expression"
journalists and citizens will be able to continue filming and broadcasting "without malicious intent," said the co-writer of the bill. "it is not freedom of expression that is being attacked, what we are attacking is the hatred and anti-police sentiment on social networks"
the law is called 'la loi « sécurité globale »'
