If I start taking tablets for high BP, will I get addicted/dependent on medicine? - very common concern. The question is wrong. The question should be is there a way to get rid of high blood pressure and stop medicine? Yes in some instances it may be possible. #HighBloodPressure
1. If you're are obese or overweight - by reducing weight and maintaining healthy body weight it is possible to reverse high blood pressure in many cases. Ideal body wt = (height in cm minus 100) kg #obesity
3. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) - too much snoring in night and low oxygen levels can lead to high BP. Common in overweight individuals with thick short neck. Treating OSA by using CPAP/BIPAP machine to help breath or sometimes surgically can cure high BP. #OSA
4. Certain secondary causes of high BP - if diagnosed can be cured by treating the underlying cause. Aldosterone secreting adenoma in adrenal, pheochromocytoma, Cushing's syndrome, hyperparathyroidism, hypercalcemia, renal artery stenosis are some examples #secondaryHTN
5. Dietary restriction of salt, sugar and fat. Regular physical exercise, minimal alcohol consumption and stopping to smoke/tobacco use are crucial. #DASHdiet #stopsmoking #reducealcohol
