The relationship aran has with the miya twins is more complex than just âhe had to put up with them for all his lifeâ. At first he didnt,itâs been shown that he watched them from afar. They occasionally talked but not to the point where you would consider them close.
We begin to understand their relationship in chapter 279 which is titled âLoveâ.
At first the only reason why they even do start talking is because the twins are so annoying Aran has to step in and say something. But during that training camp he doesnât do much more other than watch them from afar.
Itâs partly because he was scared from the unknown. He was worried about Atsumu but he didnât know how to breach that distance, so in that particular training camp he doesnât.
Then they meet again during another training camp. This time itâs the twins who willlfully call out to him first. This signifies a shift in their relationship: this is the part where they truly start getting along.
Even when theyâre not talking aran is always silently observing their behaviour. Because he wants to understand the unknown better; the things he feared before. Heâs thinking about their behaviour too: in the manga he goes â......â to showcase this. He wants to understand.
Hes attentively looking over him to the point where the person on his side notices and goes â?â . This training camp is crucial for aran and the twins relationship.
At the end of the training camp we get aran truly understanding atsumu. He understands his hyperfixation on volleyball and how hes almost like a monster who hungers for more and more. It scares him but this time instead of backing away, itâs what makes them become closer.
His understanding wasnât a coincidence: it was the result of silently watching over him while they still werenât as close.
And now we skip to inarizaki. This is the point where you truly understand how close theyâve gotten. Aran is the closest person the twins have around each other; mainly because aran made an active effort to understand them even if he was scared of them at first.
We got this iconic line thanks to aran. He was the one who perfectly encompassed the twins relationship because he knows them best. No matter how annoying he finds them, how much fights they get into, he knows that the biggest blessing Atsumu has is Osamu.
And then it cuts to a flashback. Showcasing that even back then, back in middle school he knew how important they were to each other. At the time they were far apart; but he was still watching them., waiting for the moment where they could grow closer to each other.
Heâs also the one that jumpstarted the miya twins flashback. All the miya twins related content weâve gotten is thanks to Aran which shows how close they truly are.
Itâs interesting to see the opposing ideals of aran and osamu: what aran sees as faith osamu sees just as something common; he moreso sees it as trusting in his abilities since he knows how hard atsumu has worked to get to that point.
But even when theyâre opposed the base idea is still the same: you and atsumu are close enough to trust in each others ability.
The sets they have show how much they trust in each other. Aran is the kind of spiker atsumu wants on his team; one who will be able to meet all of his demands even when he wasnât ready for it. And he does it perfectly as well which is why atsumu is so happy seeing him spike.
Thereâs also this panel that includes aran. It shows that aran is also watching over kitas progress. This is also a huge clue to his character (someone who silently watches over others).
Itâs also a hint to what the twins and his relationship is going to be like (since the flashback only appears later on in the match). This is why the words âsomeone is watching over youâ are right above aran: heâs watching over the others too.
Heâs so close to the twins that he tends to have the same reactions as them as well. As much as he influences them and pushes them to do better, they have that same effect on him.
The only ones he truly reprimands on the team are the twins because hes so close to them. He knows what theyâre like and when to step in. Itâs what years of watching over others and doing your best to get along builds up to: a mutual unspoken trust.
It gets to a point that when theyâre far apart they both miss each others presence. They miss the jokes that used to land well, the ones they were used to making around each other. It feels as though theyâre homesick; because in this case for them home is each others presence.
This all wraps up nicely in the timeskip where you can see him still supporting both of the twins. If Osamu had gone pro (itâs good that he didnât though) Iâm sure he wouldâve been on the same team as aran: because theyâre that close.
TLDR: the person closest to the twins is Aran and their relationship is more complex than him just âhaving to deal with them since childhoodâ. While he can be harsh to the twins when they deserve it, he shows kindness like no other.
He was the first one who truly tried understanding them. And he will continue to be the one who understands them best.
