something i'm thinking through this morning https://twitter.com/LeeFlower/status/1329832417260154882
T.W:IPV
when my stalker broke into my house in March, I talked to quite a few DV counsellors who worked specifically with the LGBTQ community. one suggested that if I got a restraining order it could stipulate that the stalker receive therapy as part of court order

I ultimately didn't go through with it, because the more I thought about it, the less it made sense to try and force someone who is a true DARVO queen, to get therapy for stalking me and breaking into my house
from my perspective, western psychology is fundamentally ill-equipped to tackle IPV because western psych has largely been used as a tool of shoring up and reinforcing imbalances of asymmetrical power
the only reason why we even have any acknowledgement of IPV in therapeutic contexts is the work of feminists psychologists & waves of multiply marginalized people joining what was and still is a white boys club
but in my mind, even that's limited, because feminist psychology, or the presence of multiply marginalized psychologists, doesn't inherently change psych's foundations or its sordid history
so when i see people in abolitionists & TJ spaces talking about therapy as a tool, I cringe on the inside for a lot of the reasons this thread outlines
i have (a small amount) of hope for ways of studying the mind that are grounded in anti-colonial, anti-imperialist, queer/feminist, abolitionist- all that jazz
that could play a role in TJ processes
