10 Influential Producers (A THREAD)

These are a selection of producers that shape the sound of Hip-Hop the way we know today.

These are just selections and not a ranking and let me know if I should do a part 2.

1. Rick Rubin

He has been producing since the 1980s and a major influence for a lot of producer making groundbreaking creative sounds from the Rock-Meshed sound of Run DMC to Beastie Boys. Also the genius mind behind Def Jam's success.

2. The Bomb Squad

Notable for their hard pounding productions that would be influential to producers such as El-P or to the way they influence multi-sample productions, The Bomb Squad was ahead of its own time. They can go from Public Enemy to Bell Big Devoe

3. DJ Screw

Memphis City legend, DJ Screw was ahead of its own time with Chop and Screw. It would cement himself as an Avant Gardist at that time and a legend for the Chop and Screw sound we all know from the Southern sound and the gentrified Slow and Reverbed.

4. The Neptunes

During the 2000s, two duos interfere the scene and made a huge explosion in the industry for their unique form of style mixing Hip-Hop with Alternative sounds influencing modern Alt HH sound such as Tyler the Creator. Chad and Pharrell are monoliths of Hit makers

5. Nujabes

One of the most influential Producers of all time. Breaking the racial division and making a bridge between Asian and Black culture combining Hip-Hop with Japanese Animation. His aesthetic ethereal productions would influence 'Lo-Fi beats' term we know today.

6. DJ Paul

Another icon from the Southern Coast. Proud member of the Three 6 Mafia, he is one of the blueprint of Trap we know today. Sure there are Tommy Wright III and Toomp but the way how DJ Paul produce was revolutionary and his style is the influence of trap today.

7. Madlib

A voyager of sample using, Madlib is a genius. From the abstract sampling technique to the way how he produces extends the bar high for other producers to have an abstract path to experiment while making an amazing eclectic beat.

8. Kanye West

What you get after locking yourself in a room making 5 beats a day for 3 summers? A legend. Ye as we all know is an aeture of an artist influencing a lot of artists from his revolutionary style of 808s to inspiring big names such as Drake to Juice.

9. J Dilla

An MVP of MPC, a one in a million expert with a golden ear that influence a lot of household names for Hip Hop from 9th Wonder to Ye himself. None can do it like Jay Dee especially with the unique Time Signature to sample the unsamplable.

10. Dr. Dre

The real G of synthesiser and mixing. The man who changed Hip Hop since the age of N.W.A. and now a huge money making machine, Dr. Dre has master a lot of production styles and perhaps one of the most important producers to influence artists from Ye to Snoop and Em.
