How was Damian conceived? aka the history of the infamous retcon [a thread]

In the original story, Son of the Demon, Bruce & Talia made love consensually but Talia lies about her miscarriage to protect Bruce. In the end, they go their separate ways and Talia puts the baby up for adoption.

Then comes Morrison in Batman #655 where he retcons Bruce & Talia's romance into rape, turns Damian into a Designer Baby and writes Talia as a complete monster.

Also, it's worth mentioning that between SotD and Morrison, we were introduced to two sons of Bruce & Talia. One of them is Tallant Wayne and the other is Ibn al Xu‘ffasch. Although both of their origins are based on SotD, they were raised quite differently. Tallant was raised

by single mother Talia (Ra's killed Bruce in this story) and grew up to be a hero, while Ibn was raised by Ra's and grew up to be a morally complex antihero.

After Morrison, Tomasi tried to soften Talia a bit in Batman and Robin and also restored the love between Bruce & Talia, but then then he went with Morrison's retcon again in Robin Rises Omega.

next on the list is the Son of Batman movie that unfortunately adapted Morrison's retcon but with a minor change, that is, when Bruce admits liking some of what happened between them that night

In Batman: Prelude to the Wedding: Robin vs. Ra's al Ghul #1, Seeley also referenced the rape retcon

Then the whole thing came back with full force in Deathstroke #32, where Talia downright admits to being the worst of the worst

Where we are now: although SotD is referenced again as Damian's first appearance, according to his file in the Robin 80th anniversary special, Bruce & Talia made love consensually but Talia stole Bruce's genetic material.

Seems to me that @DCComics is having a real hard time admitting that Bruce's got some responsibility in knocking up Ms. al Ghul...
