0/ I& #39;ve recently been chatting with people about what it would take to start a new city. It& #39;s such an interesting idea to think about! Just like with products, I feel like a startup/charter city should be 10x better for target inhabitants. A few ideas for such cities:
1/ A city for parents -- less nightlife and fewer activities for single people; more options for school, daycare, and enrichment activities; lots of nearby lodging for long in-law visits.
2/ A city for young people just out of school -- lots of fun activities; fewer services for people with families; small, affordable homes.
3/ A city catering to a specific profession. What might a city look like if you designed it for artists or engineers or another specific industry?
4/ A hypoallergenic city for people with severe asthma, compromised immune systems, or allergies -- no allergens in food supply; gas vehicles forbidden; no pets allowed.
5/ A city for night owls -- standard work and school hours are a few hours later; everything is open late; loud noise in the mornings is forbidden.
6/ The cities wouldn& #39;t by definition not be for everyone**, but they& #39;d be 10x better alternatives for the groups of people they target.
** If I could, I& #39;d move to a night owl city tomorrow. =P

7/ A few misc thoughts a/b new cities:
- it& #39;s cheaper/faster to build next to existing infrastructure, so focus on the outskirts of populated areas.
- it& #39;s likely easier to start in low tax areas. Ask new residents coming from high tax places to invest savings into the new city.
