as I awake to a stranger calling me a vegan fag in my DMs (again), I reflect on how the idea that it’s feminine or gay to be vegan is an extension of not understanding intersectionality. It should be no surprise that groups of people who often suffer forms of oppression (cont.)
are more likely to understand/advocate against it when they see it elsewhere. The fact that veganism holds many women/LGBT+/POC/disabled folk doesn’t reflect ANYTHING on us but a greater empathy for animals and perhaps a willingness to actually make change to positively (cont)
impact lives that might not be just ours or be people that look like us. What it does show, however, is a clear pattern from the people who do exhibit this behaviour of consistently trying to punish or invalidate anyone who doesn’t fit into their very safe, boring (cont)
norm. Veganism isn’t weird and it certainly isn’t strange to find big ol disabled queers like me in it, what’s fucking weird is feeling alienated by people giving an actual shit about something or someone other than themselves, and the only thing that reflects on is you.
