Every day we watch all these powerful people lying and scheming, doing immeasurable damage to our institutions, and exposing us to physical danger and death. And all across the country, powerless people are imprisoned in Covid hotbeds for comparatively meaningless infractions.
I just watched Trump lawyer Sidney Powell tell lie upon lie about millions of votes switched from Biden to Trump. She will go unpunished while mothers go to prison for lying about where they live to send their kids to better schools.
The abuse of power is breathtaking and enormously harmful, and in most cases, the consequences will be social and political if they even come at all. It is amazing what these people can get away with and how little it takes for others to lose their freedom.
I guess this is ultimately what our justice system is for—protecting some, controlling others. This would be fair, even desirable, if it protected and controlled the right people (the average civilian and the rapist/murderer/child molester). But it very demonstrably does not.
