In our church, sometimes an opportunity for adaptive change comes along, and we almost always grab at a technical change instead. Then we pat ourselves on the back for having made a change, no matter how inconsequential it was.
The Gospel does not change, of course. But if we continue to insist on running the church like it’s 1950, we shouldn’t be surprised when people of the present time look at the church and roll their eyes.
Honest to God, Christendom is over, people! The church is not the center of our society. Stop pretending! Let’s run the church like it’s 150, not 1950.
And let’s give thanks for the loss of prestige. Prestige is not compatible with the Gospel.
