All right, US people. We are a week oit from Thanksgiving, and I have a modest proposal:
We all know we're going to be talking about food, right? So could we please, just this once, do so without calling things "bad" or some variant? Could we keep it positive?
Every time this sort of discussion happens people dive in with "ugh, turkey/sweet potatoes/cranberry sauce/pumpkin pie/whatever is DISGUSTING" and fucking seriously, folks, do we really need that kind of negativity? In this fucking hit mess that is 2020?
And news flash, your personal tastes are not a definitive value judgement anyway, so get the fuck over it.
Don't like something in particular? Say that.
"I don't care for turkey, so we are having roast beef".
"I prefer apple pie, the texture on pumpkin isn't my thing."
"I always had canned cranberry sauce growing up, so it is my favorite!"
That last one is critical, too, because so many of our food preferences are tied to what we grew up eating, in both positive and negative ways. Maybe you don't "hate" turkey, but T-Day was always a shitshow at your house and the memory is tied to the flavor? 🤔
Anyway, tl;dr, please keep it positive, no food is bad or gross or wrong or naughty or anything. Enjoy what you like without harshing on other people.
