This is my hope as well. I don't know what's wrong with Intel, I think they are fucked beyond salvaging at this point. But I hope AMD or someone starts making non-x86 chips.
AMD has already made ARM chips and at least one of the Surface products is ARM.
It's time to dump x86. https://twitter.com/srbaker/status/1329188016229904385

Apple didn't invent the GUI. But when the Mac came out, suddenly nobody wanted DOS anymore. Even if we mostly wanted Windows.
Apple didn't invent most of the important parts of the first iPhone, but when it came out, suddenly nobody wanted their Blackberry anymore. Even if we mostly wanted Android phones.
Apple didn't invent ARM. But now that the M1 Macs are out, I hope we'll all realize we don't want x86 anymore. Even if what we want isn't an M1 Mac.
My Thinkpad already gets 15 hours of battery life with it's Intel chip (because big batteries). The M1 MacBook doubled its battery life without changing it's battery size. I want that. Lets not compare performance of my 5th gen i5 to the M1...
If the Playstation 6 has CPU cores like the M1 performance cores, I won't be able to build a gaming PC faster than it. I want that too.
