It’s that time of year again when I remind people that donating even $5 to food banks and pantries is better than saddling them with all your unwanted canned foods.
Canned goods have a particularly low rate of charitable return. They’re heavy and awkward to manage, they’re difficult to fit into a family’s meal plan. Ppl buy their canned goods at 4x the bulk price that can be obtained by food banks. Please just donate a few bucks.
I share this, btw, not to criticize anyone. So many of us grew up doing canned food drives at school/church--it's something we automatically do around the holidays now because we've been told it's more helpful than it is. Just trying to correct this idea.
That Feeding America link seems to be broken. Here it is again: https://www.feedingamerica.org/find-your-local-foodbank
It’s also never lost on me that people and families shouldn’t have to rely food banks and pantries for survival but I appreciate everyone who’s making contributions❤️❤️❤️
