why it’s abelist to have fonts in your dn and bio - an informative thread

BACKGROUND: i’m making this thread to educate people. i see many people on this app attacking others for having fonts in their dn/bio but never educating them on why it’s abelist. it’s important to nicely educate someone rather than attack them :)))

the main reason people say it’s ableist to have fonts in your dn/bio is because screen readers can’t properly read a sentence or name that’s fonted.

what is a screen reader: a screen reader is a software that helps people who are visually impaired, have learning disabilities, or can’t read use modern technology ( usually a phone or computer ).

how do disabled people use it : screen readers can be apps or on keyboards (depending on what technology your using). app screen readers tend to use an automated voice (kind of sounds like siri). keyboard screen readers tend to use braille.

my personal opinion as an nd person: you’re not ableist if you didn’t know that screen readers cant read fonts. however, if you know that screen readers cant read fonts and u still have them in ur dn/bio u are abelist !

why is it ableist, u may ask ? - it’s ableist bc you know that a disabled person won’t be able interact with your account . we might not know your pronouns, name or anything about u. ur excluding us for absolutely no reason !! which is soo ableist and hurtful.

final words - please don’t speak over the disabled community. if u don’t believe this is ableist, you are valid in your opinion ig. just don’t attack us or call us snowflakes, bc it can be extremely overwhelming for us. we are already invalidated a ton.

BTW I MISSPELLED ABLEIST A TON IN THIS THREAD. IM REALLY SORRY. ableist is spelled a b l e i s t not abelist or abelst.
