half-formed take in three parts
1. The left and center left factions of the Democratic party should vocally and publicly criticize each other,
2. in a "fair" and "sporting" way,
3. with the acknowledgement that the other side is still better than Republicans
i think #2 is the aspect democrats have the most difficulty with, which makes sense because it's obviously the most difficult of the three.
some things i wish they would do differently
- emphasizing how important and valid and ok it is for people to have their own opinions. "i disagree but that's okay, she has the right to speak her mind and represent her constituents, that's what Democracy is all about, etc"
- maybe a bright line rule about which districts AOC is "allowed" to support primary challengers in (e.g., anything D+10 or better + anyone under investigation). maybe legitimizing that subset of primary challenges would be "enough" or maybe she'd require some further concession
- a baseline assumption of good faith that includes a reasonable amount of suspension of disbelief
- at least some public show of being kind of friendly?
