#RR14 #CLST6 Better late than never! We have a lot of evidence for eating and drinking in Greek houses. The attached cups were used in a symposium which is a drinking party amongst men that took place in the andron [1]. https://twitter.com/FlintCLST6/status/1320421696390733824
As seen in the plan of this Greek house, the andron is usually easily distinguishable because it has a mosaic center on the floor and was designed to hold couches [2]. /2
I found it very interesting that, besides the andron, archaeologists do not know what most rooms in a Greek house were used for. Of course, animal bones also tell us a lot about ancient Greek people. /3
Studying animal remains revealed that across domestic, exterior, and communal dining revealed that the same percentage of cattle, pig, sheep, and goat were found in all of these settings [3]. /4
