(thread) WHAT INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY CAN DO FOR BELARUS

Only last Sunday, >1300 people were detained. The repressions are escalating despite the entirely peaceful character of the protests. It’s crucial that EU, US, Canada, UK have the firm and consolidated policy on Belarus
1. Demand a re-run of the presidential election under international supervision, release of all political prisoners as the precondition; Recognize the leadership of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Coordination Council as the representatives of Belarus people
2. Announce a package of economic support for democratic Belarus during the transition and after; Initiate programs of technical assistance to Belarus activists, striking workers, trade unions, media, journalists, students, people of culture and sports repressed by the regime.
3. Introduce broader targeted political and economic sanctions against individuals and companies connected to Lukashenka; revise development aid that goes to government and redesign programs to help the civil society directly
5. Stick with recommendations of Moscow Mechanism report by OSCE; Initiate International investigation on tortures and police violence, persecute the perpetrators of human rights crimes; designate the punitive organizations such as OMON as extremist/terrorist
