I completed my MBBS just this year from a government hospital in Kolkata paying only ₹4500 per semester ( i.e ₹9000 p.a) for 9 semesters. Let that sink in.
The ENTIRE course cost me around ₹50,000 over a span of 4.5 years.
There were still students in my college from remote villages who borrowed money to be able to pay fees. There were children of gamcha (cotton towel) weavers, farmers, black-smiths. There are my co-interns I know who support their families with their internship stipends.
If all State Governments follow what Haryana Govt is doing and increase the Government medical college fees to outrageous amounts, no poor student will get to be a doctor ever again.
