an analysis of kurapika, his personality, and how i think he would have turned out had he not lost his clan

i’ve already talked abt how kurapika was a lot like gon during his childhood but i will say it again! growing up, all he knew was the forest around him and the 128 members of his clan. his personality was outgoing, stubborn, optimistic and playful. he was just a really happy kid
i think kurapika began to lose some of that optimism as soon as he went into the village with pairo and people became scared of him when his eyes turned red. the names that they called him really affected him, and you can tell he already lost part of his dream to go outside+
the village after this. going to this village was kurapikas first experience outside his clan, so the reaction he received left a lasting impression on him. this is the beginning of the more reserved, serious kurapika that we know now.
(i actually saw someone else say this but it’s possible that the reason the phantom troupe came to the kurta clan was because they heard about the “devil eyes” and were curious. had kurapika not gone into the village, had his eyes not turned scarlet, maybe his clan would be okay)
okay now skipping forward to after he finds out about the massacre of his clan,, the news of everything he ever knew being gone was obviously traumatizing for him. kurapika was like a switch that had been flipped, his entire personality did a 180.
he went from being a cheerful ball of sunshine to a quiet and serious person. he hid his secrets from others and only spoke when necessary. i think had he not lost his clan he would have continued to be the playful little dork he was as a kid
okay now something i find interesting: kurapika is not completely gone. there are moments (usually when he’s with killua, leorio and gon) where we can see him being his old self. he was so used to being alone that he lost himself in his own sadness and rage, but with++
people around him, especially people who cared about him, he wasn’t always stuck in his own mind.
that’s why throughout the show you can see him getting progressively more sad,,, because he didn’t have his friends there to help him. part of that is his own fault, he closes himself off and distances himself from them because he thinks he’s only going to hurt them,
he thinks he’s not worthy of them so he doesn’t answer the phone or contact them. also he most likely thinks they’re only his friends out of pity,, he convinced himself that they didn’t want to see him or talk to him and they only called because they didn’t want to seem rude
he just seems like the type to overthink and then make drastic conclusions that don’t make sense yet he somehow convinces himself that they’re true.
(example of what i mean)
((kurapika ur literally so stupid sometimes i love u but seriously wtf))

kurapika needs to be with people. it’s too easy for him to drown (i couldn’t think of any other word
) in his own emotions. without the presence of his friends he becomes consumed by his goals. he’s unhealthy hyperfixated on them but that’s for another time bc this is too long,,

in conclusion: kurapika is a big goofball and softie but overtime he lost his original self. kurapika needs to have people who care about him around because he doesn’t care about himself. he’s convinced himself that he’s only good for completing his mission of avenging his clan
