Thread: . @AOC’s point about the party’s underinvestment in digital & the way she’s being dismissed happens in meetings every day. I’ve seen (& experienced) this happen in so many industries from comms to fundraising to economic development to philanthropy.
Young people have the skills & experience with platforms to build effective digital strategies to raise $, awareness & support. Leaders who dismiss them is eventually going to see it reflected in their KPIs, budget numbers & other performance metrics.
Just because there is a way something has always been done doesn’t mean that’s how it always should be. The world has changed a lot since ‘95 when the internet first hit the mainstream & young people have grown up alongside it. Listen to them. Rely on them to build new strategies
The fact the individuals often dismissed when introducing innovative strategies are young women is not lost on me. Young men are often given more space & time to try something new & produce results. If women’s strategies fail or don’t live up fully, they’re immediately abandoned.
My point is if you’re in a leadership position in any industry & have areas you want to improve performance - don’t dismiss ideas that may seem unconventional. Rely on young people to build robust digital strategies. Give everyone equal space & time to prove & modify strategy.
Fin/ I realize there’s a grammatical error in a verb in this thread. Deal with it. You get my point.
