Ingratitude for Lucian Healthcare? I think I’ve earned an opinion on this after years of constant hospitalization. Mostly private but the reason why I’ve not been at VH/OKEU more is because of its problems providing adequate care. Getting Saint Lucians to speak up publicly 1/
When things go wrong is hard enough but calling it ungrateful is deeply harmful and invalidating. There is a difference in honest and maybe firm critique and disrespect. Disrespect, though it happens, is not that common. No one blames the healthcare workers for the mess 2/
They are stuck in. However we need to be able to unabashedly critique the dysfunction of our hospitals. They are killing people. It’s not an exaggeration to say that I’ve valid fears that going to VH for a medical crisis could cause my death. Evry day ppl are dying because of 3/
Inadequate staffing, medication shortages, lack of financial access to treatments, bed shortages and neglect due to high patient/nurse ratios. Nothing is going to change if we sit quiet or are shamed into silence. I know this because I depend on hospitals to keep me alive 4/
When I critique I am not ungrateful. I want better for my life and for lucians lives. And often public outrage is the only way to effect change anyways. I am fortunate to still have options and alternatives to VH and OKEU but I live in regular fear of losing those options and 5/
Landing there again. The medical staff are doing there best but unless you have your own experience to speak from please don’t sit in judgement of an experience you don’t know if you would have the resilience to survive.
