this might be a Hot take but what is a post from a white man going to do exactly? if these white celebs arent opening their purse, putting in time and effort for the community, or putting their body on the line then what are they doing really?
this isnt to defend gerard i just Dont expect shit from white people. i refuse to work with, depend on, or wait for the support of white people. they are our oppressors, not our saviors. there are more effective things than waiting for some white man to post "i voted" / "go vote"
i understand being disappointed and sure it would be cool if he did more but i dont see why we should linger on it if its not going to provide actual results. again its much more effective to listen and work w poc than to wait for a performative post from a white man.
ik it sounds pessimistic but having such high expectations of white people who will never understand the experience of poc in america is just a recipe for disappointment and disillusionment. its draining. put that hope into yrself & yr community instead, its much more rewarding.
btw if any of the tweets above seem unclear feel free to ask. ive condensed this into just 4 tweets based on conversations ive had that were Hours long so it might sound a bit disjointed. **im not looking to invalidate feelings im just pointing out that waiting for white people
might not be the most viable action to take.** ik this thread sounds largely negative, but its meant to provide new perspective by which positive things can emerge. i understand why people feel the way they do bc i felt the same when i was younger. i understand your anger and-
i think its 100% valid. please understand that this take is partially based in me being worried abt You and the disappointment You feel. i have felt that same disappointment time and time again and its Crushing.
i feel a lot more accomplished now working directly with latinx than i ever did trying to convince white people to care. trust me when i say that redirecting that energy into nurturing and giving back to your community is The Best feeling.
disclaimer: im not saying white people Shouldnt help. ik that white people can serve to influence other white people & support is always always welcome. what im saying is that ultimately it matters Very Little what they have to say. again they are our oppressors, not our saviors.
all that being said im not here to cause harm. i am open to criticism and i am open to learning. my view is heavily influenced by my experience and ik others have experiences different to mine so im down to listen.
