So... I just cloned my Animal Crossing New Horizons island... without any hacking. #AnimalCrossingNewHorizons #AnimalCrossing

I decided to flatten and basically re-start my island without actually restarting and losing my progress. First I made sure my island was backed up to the cloud, then I disconnected my Switch from the internet (so that it wouldn’t overwrite the backup once I started).
Then I basically destroyed my whole island, moved all the buildings to the beach and removed all the trees/flowers, custom designs and furniture, and flattened the whole thing. Then... I regretted it. Kept myself up last night thinking about it.
But because I’d planned ahead, I had my non-destroyed island backed up to the server. I contacted Nintendo customer support and got them to enable save data restoration so I could download my save file to my other Switch (Switch Lite, my main system now).
They say they only allow this if your original Switch has been stolen/lost or is non-operational.
I told them that my system was non-operational. Technically not a lie, as it does have a lot of joy-con drift despite otherwise working fine.

Long story short, they released my data for restoration and now my lovely non-flattened island is home on my Switch Lite, good as new (better, even).
But the flattened version is still on my original Switch.
So I have two versions of the same island on two different Switches.

I am yet to connect my original Switch back to the internet so I don’t quite know what will happen if I do (if it’ll keep the island or remotely erase it).
So for now I have the exact same island on two Switch systems.

If anyone has any experience with this, please chime in. I saw a few people ask about this scenario on Reddit but no one seemed to have a clear answer.
