i’m gonna try to phrase this as best as i can but these are my thoughts on the results of the election/how society views presidency in general
(1) i want to start this off by saying that i think trump’s loss is cause for celebration, and if you are in a position of privilege it’s not your place to tell someone of an oppressed group that they shouldn’t be celebrating.
(3) these are people who have been fighting relentlessly for years. no, biden being elected will not fix everything, but it can give a sense of comfort to those who need it.
(3) i also think that steps towards progress can and should be acknowledged. progress is progress, and it’s not always huge, but it’s something. if having a woc as vp right now is helping people finally feel represented and seen, i see that as a positive thing.
(4) however, idolizing politicians, treating them like celebrities, and pretending like everything is fine now is counter productive.
(5) there is no such thing as a “good president” because the role of the president is inherently oppressive. biden may bring along newer, more progressive policies, and that’s great.
(6) however, idolizing him is a slap in the face to the marginalized communities who are oppressed as a result of his corruption.
(7) politicians are not celebrities. they are not the face of your colorful posters. they are not saviors. they are public servants. treating them as anything more than that makes you no different from cultish trump supporters.
