Want to do something powerful from the comfort of your chair?

Learn how to become a Wikipedia editor and make sure every boot thirsty sonnabitch who aided fascism is never mainstreamed again.
It takes skill, they routinely hire PR people to illegally update Wikipedia, but the entire process is transparent and documented, and a reasonably experienced person telling the truth and following the rules can make sure history is not rewritten.
A decent tutorial.
You can become an expert on a person, organization, topic and go deep if that’s your personality or you can dabble filling gaps across the volumes.
One of the best feelings I can describe is going back to your (public) edit history and seeing something you introduced remain many years later and perhaps forever. And looking at the history and how others tried to erase it and others (the vast majority) defended it.
By public I mean your username. You can choose to be known, semi transparent or anonymous. It’s is not about controlling who is contributing its a very successful model utilizing distributive accountability and community standards. It’s beautiful.
You can visit any page on Wikipedia and immediately click the history or conversation tab and reveal an entire universe of editors going at it. Some fixing what vandals do, others correcting what PR teams do, but mostly extremely caring people who want the record to be straight.
Today for example, Wall Street is VERY interested in recasting the Lincoln Project as the vanquishers of Trump, when all facts point to progressive organizers. Right now that Wikipedia page is so contested with editing to set history right that it’s locked. This is important.
Wall St is doing this because they are propping up the myth that there were Republicans who stopped Trump. There weren’t. And they didn’t by every measure. Dems and GOP they fund are helping them do this. But they don’t get to win if we edit.
Additionally, you know who often doesn’t get a Wikipedia article because of the nature of who has time to edit?

Local police shootings of Black people.

And when they do, it’s the police and prosecutors who edit them.

You can change that.
Then because of your work, journalists, researchers, voters, future generations will find your edits and it will be your work that you will see in stories in papers, magazines, books, even television shows like Daily Show. Because that’s where everyone starts, with what you added
Oh you know what else? When these secretive groups who edit Wikipedia to protect the powerful and unaccountable get caught because of you? It can start a series of events exposing all of their other edits, having a ripple effect of truth across the entire collection. It’s wow.
Example: U fixed a strange deletion on a page about an illegal oil dump over an endangered coral reef. Then people click on the person who is sus that made that deletion. Then you follow that person across their history and reveal a slew of propaganda that you now fix, forever.
