CW: pronouns -- trans folx, feel free to mute this if it's not the kind of convo you want in your feed.

Folks who don't include pronouns in bio, how come?
Yes, I have them in mine. Saved you a click ;-)

For those whose reason is that "everyone can tell;" the reason someone like you might choose to include them is that it normalizes it & communicate to gender minorities that you care about making academia inclusive for them.
Source for this is multiple gender non-conforming tweeps saying it makes them feel safer/more comfortable, and so far none telling me they don't like it. No research on it to my knowledge, but to me personally it seems like a small act for me that can mean a lot for someone else.
Response shared by DM (permission to post):

"Don’t want to add another straight white guy’s opinion into the public mix, but a very pragmatic reason is that emphasising gender can increase anti-women bias.

Anon DM reply, 2/2: "A more idealistic reason is that gender in general should be less of a thing in society. We pointlessly gender behaviours and preferences..." "saying “he/him” implicitly says “stereotypical male behaviours and preferences”, when I don’t think it should"
Another anon DM, with permission (1/2): "I worry that the eemphasis on gender and pronouns puts pressure on effeminate gay men or butch lesbians and can make them feel exposed or humiliated. With my students instead of asking directly for pronouns on the first day..."
Anon DM 2/2 "...I ask everyone to tell a short story about themselves in the third person. So they can communicate information about pronouns if they wish but nobody is forced to “declare”."
My own thoughts: there are a lot of reasons this shouldn't be an expectation (not pressuring non-out folks alone is enough), and this poll isn't intended to be prescriptive. I'm really just looking to listen/understand (and as usual, create space for others to do the same).
