You should sieze power like your life depends on it.

It does.
In The Game of Power, the stakes have always been life and death, and they always will be.
In the old aristocratic court, success in the game meant getting a bedroom in the palace, and easy access to food.

Failure meant exile or execution.

Exile was nothing more than a death sentence in slow motion; a man without the resources of the kingdom would surely starve.
In a modern capitalist society (America), success means holding on to a high paying job or profitable business, and being able to buy shelter, food, and medical care.

Failure means having no income, becoming homeless, and starving in the streets.
In every macro dominance hierarchy, one's relative rank is a matter of life and death.

Keep in mind, 'macro dominance hierarchy' is a euphemism for 'society'.
If for no other reason, the higher your rank in the hierarchy is, the better your access to medical care will be.
If you are ultra high status (billionaire), and you suddenly get sick, you will be instantly be rushed to the best medical care on the planet.

Your probability of survival is great.
If you are medium status (say middle class), and you suddenly get sick, you will get access to medical care, but you will have to wait for an appointment with a doctor, and it will NOT be the best medical care on the planet.

Your probability of survival is decent.
If you are low status (say homeless), and you suddenly get sick, you will get shoddy medical care with delays, or perhaps no medical care at all.

Your probability of survival is dismal.
