Remember that the last times people tried to reach across the aisle to violent white supremacists, it ended with a century of segregration and Operation Paperclip and a former nazi becoming the UN secretary general whose voice is on the Voyager probe
Trying to rehabilitate nazis for short term reasons leads to them staying around for generations.

And, in one case, immortalizing their voice for millions of years as the ambassador of humanity
When you rehabilitate a fascist for your short term benefit, it means 50 years from now someone's gonna have to deal with the consequences of that.
For example: Grant killed the KKK within a decade of the Civil War ending. By 1876 it was dead.

And then former confederates were rehabilitated, allowed to hold office and vote and acquire power again, etc

And, 40 years later, it returned even more virulent.
When you rehabilitate a nazi now, you are ensuring his great grandkid 40 years from now will kill someone.
Ann Frank's asylum application was rejected due to a sinophobic law passed half a century earlier.

People who merely wanted to ban Chinese immigrants, who never expected the holocaust to happen, ensured her death decades before she was even born.
There are short term negative consequences of rehabilitating white supremacists.

And, far larger negative consequences that may occur after you are dead.
Politicians don't think in terms of decades and generations. They don't and can't give a fuck about what happens 4 years later.
A politician will never appeal to the consequences, 50 years later, of their actions.
Consider climate refugees. The coming clusterfuck that'll decimate the global south.

Short term policies and positions now, will kill people not yet born.
"how would we expect in 2020 that in 2050 this would happen?"

Well, how would an 1880 person drafting a law againt Chinese immigrants, think that it'd be used to send Europeans back to death camps?
Stomp nazis now, deplatform them now, violently refuse to rehabilitate them now, and you prevent your grandkids from having to deal with consequences you never considered.
